Wayman Tisdale Undergoes Weight-Loss Surgery

Bassist Wayman Tisdale, who recently wrapped his first All Star Smooth Jazz Cruise as a host last month, has reportedly undergone weight loss surgery. The KTLA Morning News reported that Tisdale entered West Hills Medical Center in West Hills, California on Tuesday, February 6th, to undergo lap band surgery.

The former NBA all star, who is six feet nine inches tall, had reportedly gone up to 365 pounds and was having trouble shedding pounds. He is hoping that the technique -- which is the least invasive of the weight loss surgical options -- will help him whittle back down to 265 pounds.

The lap band procedure involves inserting a plastic band around the upper part of the stomach to control the amount of food that can be eaten. Neither the stomach nor the intestines are cut, and the band can be removed.

The bassist is expected to bounce back quickly, as he is due to perform February 16th and 17th at the Boulder Station Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas.

Tisdale's single "Way Up," the title of his latest Rendezvous album, is currently Number Nine on the smooth jazz airplay charts.
