Jeff Kashiwa's New Single Goes 'forever'

Saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa is getting attention at radio for his new solo single "Forever," from his upcoming CD Play. The tune is one that the Seattle-based musician co-wrote for the set, which features all original compositions.

Kashiwa explains that the title "Forever" came from his habit of creating lyrics for the music, even though the words don't get recorded. He explained: "The title came about just from the rhythm: da-da, da-da-da, forever, forever. I kind of imagined someone like Al Jarreau singing that. And a lot of my songs, I always imagine lyrics and sometimes I even write lyrics to these instrumental songs. Writing the lyric gives me an emotional content and most importantly gives me a rhythmical feel."

Kashiwa's new CD, Play, is due July 31st from Native Language.

The saxophonist is currently playing a variety of dates with The Rippingtons, the Sax Pack, and his own band, Coastal Access. His next performance is Saturday, June 30th at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach, California, where he'll be playing with Coastal Access on a bill with Gregg Karukas and David Pack.
