Dave Koz, 2008 Smooth Jazz Personality of the Year, scores his first No. 1 on the Nielsen BDS chart as "Life in the Fast Lane" (Capitol) zooms 2-1, sporting the Most Increased Plays (up 63) for the second week in a row. "Love Changes Everything," Koz's previous best, got as high as No. 6 in 2005. Koz's "Greatest Hits" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart in the Oct. 4 issue of R&R, his fourth album to reach the summit. All 10 of his charted albums, extending back to 1991, have reached the top five.

To make room for Koz, The Sax Pack's megahit "Fallin' For You" (Shanachie) retreats to No. 3 after 10 long weeks at the top. Only two other songs have been at No. 1 for as long in the Nielsen BDS era: Rick Braun & Richard Elliot's "R n R" (ARTizen) was also No. 1 for 10 weeks, while Peter White's "What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)" (Legacy/Columbia) holds the record with 16 weeks.

Eric Darius stays right on Koz's heels at the top, though, as he reverses last week's drop with a new peak in spins: 381. "Goin' All Out" (Blue Note/Capitol) (5-2, up 48) trails Dave Koz by only 22 plays.

Elsewhere on the chart, Nick Colionne surges into the top 20 on both the detections and audience lists, grabbing Airpower honors with "No Limits" (On The Edge/Koch) (21-17, up 39). Also, Larry Carlton is back at No. 30 with "All in Good Time (Rerecorded)" (335).
