Chart Notes With Gordon Murray

Gordon Murray on what's the new what?
Dave Koz returns to No. 1 for a second week with "Life In The Fast Lane" (Capitol) by a razor-thin margin of only two plays. At 400 plays (+14), Koz edges out last week's chart-topping artist, Eric Darius, who falls to No. 2 despite a modest gain in plays. "Goin' All Out" (Blue Note/Capitol) (+5) hits a new high at 398 plays, retaining its bullet after two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1. Koz & Darius have swapped the top two spots for each of the last four weeks.

Most Increased Plays goes to Tim Bowman's "Sweet Sundays" (Trippin 'n' Rhythm) (8-4, +53). This marks the first Top 5 smash for Bowman, who previously had a moderate hit with "Summer Groove" (Liquid 8) back in the winter of 2006. Bowman is set to perform on Sunday, October 26, as part of the Space Coast Jazz Festival/Smooth Jazz Cares Benefit Concert, a weekend event at the Wickham Park Ampitheater in Melbourne. Portions of the proceeds benefit the Tropical Storm Fay Flood Victims Relief Fund. WGRV PD Randy Bennett has assembled an all-star lineup of talent, in addition to Bowman, who place songs on the current chart: Warren Hill at No. 8 with "La Dolce Vita" (Evolution/Koch), Nick Colionne at No. 16 with "No Limits" (On The Edge/Koch), Najee at No. 18 with "Out Of A Dream" (Heads Up), and Michael Lington at No. 22 with "You And I" (NuGroove).

Wayne Brady's "Ordinary" (Peak/CMG) is Most Added for a second consecutive week (18-17, up 8). New adds are reported at both KKSF/San Francisco and at KWJZ/Seattle. Brady will be appearing soon on "The Steve Harvey Show," "Delilah," "The Tom Joyner Morning Show" and NPR's "News & Notes."

Recommended Listening: "Putumayo Presents Women Of Jazz," in stores Tuesday, October 28. This collection of contemporary female jazz vocalists, including Cassandra Wilson, Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot, Sophie Milman, Stacey Kent, and even Etta James for some old-time flavor, is absolutely excellent from start to finish. It is sure to add some swing to any occasion (terrific cocktail party soundtrack), and is perfect for the upcoming holiday season.
