Dave Koz Assists Bernie Williams on Second Album

Bernie Williams has amassed four World Series rings, an equal number of Golden Gloves and all-star designations, and is a probable shoo-in for the national Baseball Hall of Fame. However, what many Smooth Jazz fans may not know about the New York Yankees slugger is also an accomplished guitarist and composer.

Fresh off the success of his first album, The Journey Within, Williams is pushing new kinds of records these days.

His debut release landed at #3 on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart; #175 on the Billboard Top 200; and #8 at Heatseekers. When it was released The Journey Within was also ranked the 11th best selling record in New York.

The critically acclaimed guitarist and songwriter had hit a metaphoric home run with his melodic, contemporary, undeniably soulful, Latin-flavored jazz album. Now Williams has signed a contract for his sophomore album titled Moving Forward which is set for release on April 14th.

The new album features a variety of original instrumentals written and performed by Williams and it also boasts a phenomenal roster of renowned musicians that includes Dave Koz, Mike Stern, Scott Henderson, Dave Weckl and Giovanni Hidalgo.

The album also features a special collaboration with Jon Secada.

Entertainment Weekly has called Williams “a mighty fine guitarist and composer,” while The Boston Herald favorably compared his performance style “to George Benson and Earl Klugh.” The Los Angeles Times previously hailed The Journey Within as an “impressive debut” while the New York Times echoed that Williams’ playing “hits the perfect chord.”
