Sting, Seal, Beyoncé Expected to Make Inauguration Appearance

Various reports suggest that Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Marcia Cross, Tim Robbins, Seal, Adrian Grenier, Ashley Judd, Jane Krakowski, Rachael Leigh Cook, Blair Underwood and directors Spike Lee and Ron Howard are all confirmed as a partial list for an unofficial inaugural ball.

Elvis Costello is said to be the headliner and rock stars Sting and Sam Moore will also appear, according to The Creative Coalition. The ball is a fundraising event for the nonprofit arts and entertainment advocacy group.

Besides the star-studded lineup, confirmed hosts also include members of Congress as well as policy, media and business leaders.

As if there needed to be any other reason to tune in on January 20th, the inauguration ceremony is shaping up to be one of the most star-studded events in Washington DC’s history. It would appear that half of Hollywood is clamoring for a chance to shine in Obama’s reflected glory.

Beyoncé Knowles might have been one of the first of Hollywood’s kin to offer her services, when just one day after Obama’s win she told reporters, “I’m there. I can’t wait. I feel like all of us, we’re ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want. If they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready.”

According to various rumors, inquiries and insiders there is a lot of speculation about who will be attending and who will be performing at the vastly anticipated event. Names such as Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen and many others have all been thrown into the mix.

As anyone would expect, even Oprah Winfrey has plans to be in Washington D.C. and she is bringing her entire show with her. She has announced that she will broadcast from the Kennedy Center’s Opera House during the week of January 20th.

Washington is “the place to be,” she told Access Hollywood, “There are not even words to talk about what this night means.”

An unprecedented 52 celebrities have already confirmed that they will be attending the inauguration ceremony as guests of The Creative Coalition, an organization dedicated to partnering the entertainment industry with social and political issues.

President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration will be a four-day affair, thronged with the traditional balls but also featuring service projects to honor Martin Luther King’s holiday.

The events are expected to draw millions of visitors to Washington to witness the swearing-in of the country’s first black president.

In a nod to the trying financial time for his constituents, the President-elect’s calendar of inaugural festivities represents a slight scaling back of past celebrations. Planners for the Presidential Inaugural Committee decided not to scrap the parties, on the theory that Americans are hungrier for leadership than ever. And a huge message of the week will be that better times are ahead.

“At this moment of great challenge and great change, renewing the promise of America begins with renewing the idea that in America, we rise or fall as one nation and one people,” Obama said in a statement released by the Presidential Inaugural Committee. “That sense of unity and shared purpose is what this inauguration will reflect.”
