Russ Freeman Says Rippingtons CD Title Inspired By His Interests

The Rippingtons are back with the new collection Modern Art on Peak Records. The set is previewed by the single "Paris Groove," which features a bit of accordion along with the Rippingtons'classic smooth jazz sound.

The Modern Art concept is carried through the CD with tunes like "Pastels On Canvas," "Body Art," and the title track.

As to the title of the Rippington's 15th CD, founder, producer and guitarist Russ Freeman says it might have something to do with his own interests, which are reflected on the CD's cover art and signature mascot. He told us: "It's hard to say exactly where all these concepts come from, but people point out that they mirror my own interests in life, and I certainly have increase interest in the visual arts in the past several years. So that's kinda where it came from. I'm also looking for situations to put our mascot the Jazz Cat in, and I thought it would be interesting if he was painting a piece of modern art."

Saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, who has recorded and performed with the Ripps for many years, is also featured on the CD.

The Rippingtons will kick off a summer tour beginning May 6th at the House Of Blues in Dallas. For more tour dates, visit their website, rippingtons.com.
