Jackiem Joyner New CD Later This Year, Celebrates 30th Birthday

Smooth jazz saxophonist Jackiem Joyner today (February 9) is celebrating his 30th birthday. Born in Norfolk, Va., he developed most of his musical sensibilities from singing in a church choir and playing drums during gospel songs. His family moved to Buffalo, NY, when he was in junior high; in high school, Joyner began playing sax. Early in his career, Joyner performed with artists such as pianist Bobby Lyle, keyboardist Marcus Johnson and fellow saxophonist Jaared.

Joyner’s major label debut, 2007’s Babysoul, featured the smooth jazz hit single “Stay With Me Tonight.” His sophomore and current CD, Lil’ Man Soul, offered the No. 1 Smooth Jazz Top 20 single “I’m Waiting For You,” which was also named by the Smooth Jazz Top 20 as the top single for all of 2009.

Joyner is now working on a new CD to be released later this year. His has several solo shows planned, and will also be touring as a member of pianist Keiko Matsui’s band.
