Brian Culbertson Gets Boost From Maurice White On New Cd

Instrumentalist, composer and producer Brian Culbertson shows off his funky side on his brand-new album Bringing Back The Funk. While the set includes some of the melodic piano fare Culbertson is known for, the Chicago artist also engages some legendary funk players including Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham, Ronnie Laws, Sheldon Reynolds, Gerald Albright and others for some old-school funk jams.

The project is executive produced by Earth, Wind & Fire legend Maurice White. Culbertson has long been a fan of White's and the two met a few years ago. Culbertson says that initially he and White were collaborating on tunes for a tentative White solo project, but the project changed course.

Culbertson explained: "It is definitely happening. He called me up. He actually heard my version of 'Serpentine Fire'on the radio, and I guess he liked it. So he called me and said, 'Hey man, you know, I'm doing a solo record, do you have any songs?'So I was like, 'Of course! Yes!'So you know, I sent him a bunch of stuff."

Culbertson's first single from the set is "Always Remember," which is already rising on the smooth jazz singles chart.

Bringing Back The Funk will be released on April 29th.
