KOCH Records is pleased to announce the release of guitarist and vocalist Nick Colionne's new album "No Limits" to be released July 8th, 2008. His exciting blend of jazz, funk, R&B and a touch of the blues combined with his rich singing voice and engaging stage personality make him a constant crowd favorite.
Colionne joined the ranks of today's premier jazz artists with his 2004 album "Just Come On In," which included the mega-hits "High Flyin'" and "It's Been Too Long" which hit #2 (and top 10 for the year) and #16 on the R&R Smooth Jazz Chart, respectively.
Colionne is a guitarist and vocalist whose "live" performances defy categorization. His shows incorporate all the music he loves best and the influences he's had throughout his career, from jazz to R&B to funk to blues. You're as likely to hear Nick sing the blues as you are to hear his blazing jazz licks, or even the occasional hint of metal, recalling the beginning of his career as a heavy metal guitarist. He has taken that diverse musicality and run with it on "No Limits," creating an album that is both unique and varied.
His most recent album, "Keepin' It Cool," propelled him to the top of the charts once again with the single "Always Thinking of You," which stayed on the R&R charts for an incredible 45 weeks and was also top 10 for the year.
Colionne titled the new album "No Limits" to describe where he is at in terms of his music, saying, "the project 'No Limits' is my latest adventure. I call it an adventure because I wanted to explore doing some different things with my music and not limit myself to one genre or style of playing." Colionne teamed up with two Grammy-award winning writers for the album: Jim Peterik who wrote "The Eye of The Tiger," the theme from the film "Rocky," and Paul Richmond who wrote "Shining Star" for The Manhattans.
From the upbeat title track to the dreamy "Headin' Wes Before Dawn" and Brazilian-feeling "Ports of Call" to the dance infused "Steppin' Back," "No Limits" is an album that has something for everyone. Colionne explores new genres and sounds to create an album both diverse and limitless.

Saxophonist David Sanborn’s upcoming summer release Here and Gone is packed with musical star power. Guest artists include Eric Clapton, Joss Stone, Sam Moore, Derek Trucks and Anthony Wilson. Drummer Steve Gadd and bassist Christian McBride join Sanborn on the album, set to be released on Aug. 12 by the Decca Label Group.
The record, according to a press release, is a tribute to ’60s R&B-oriented jazz musicians in the style of Hank Crawford and David “Fathead” Newman. The album was produced by Phil Ramone.
Collaborating with other major artists is nothing new for Sanborn. He’s worked with Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones, as well as contributing to David Bowie on 1975’s Young Americans and Bruce Springsteen on Born to Run. Sanborn was featured on Clapton’s own 1989 album Journeyman.
He’s also known for his two-season NBC television series Night Music, produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. The program, which aired from 1988 to 1990, served as a late-night showcase for an assortment of musicians like Sonny Rollins, Shinehead, Sister Carol, Sonic Youth, Joe Sample, Slim Gaillard and Pere Ubu.
Sanborn, 62, has released 22 solo albums since 1975, according to his web site. Sanborn’s last release was 2005’s Closer.

Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of the death of the great Ray Charles, on June 10th, 2004. Charles died of liver disease in his Beverly Hills home at the age of 73. His health had been in decline since the previous summer.
Charles, whose real name was Ray Charles Robinson, was born in Albany, Georgia, on September 23rd, 1930, and lost his sight to glaucoma at age seven. He is best remembered for bridging the gap between R&B and gospel, with jazz, country and pop. Some of Charles'biggest hits included "Hit The Road, Jack," "Here We Go Again," "I Can't Stop Loving You," "What I'd Say," "I Got A Woman," "America The Beautiful," and "Georgia On My Mind." Among his many other honors, Charles was one the first artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
Just prior his death, Ray Charles said that he planned on making music until he died: "I'm a Duke Ellington, man. I'm a Count Basie. You see because when music is your breathing or in your bloodstream, you don't retire from it. You go to your grave with it. I mean, that's just the way it is."
Shortly after his death, the posthumous album Genius Loves Company, featuring duets with Elton John, Michael McDonald and Willie Nelson, among others, went on to win eight Grammy Awards, including Best Album, and Best Record for his duet on that album's "Here We Go Again" with Norah Jones. In 2004 a film version of Charles'life story, titled Ray, became a box office success, earning actor Jamie Foxx a Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Charles.
Plans are currently underway to turn Charles'longtime Los Angeles recording studio into a state-of-the-art interactive museum. The three-story, 18,000-square-foot museum will feature rotating exhibits; never-before-seen artifacts from Charles' career, including his personal instruments and stage wardrobe; classrooms; a cafe; a rooftop garden; and a retail shop.
There may not be two things that affect the mood of our day-to-day lives more than weather and music. And nobody knows that any better that The Weather Channel, which released its second compilation of smooth jazz music, “Smooth Jazz II,” yesterday. The channel’s venture into the music industry was sparked by strong enthusiasm expressed by consumers regarding the music they hear during “Local on the 8s”.
The first compilation of music taken from the network’s local forecasts, “The Weather Channel Presents Smooth Jazz,” climbed to the top of the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart after its release last fall.
Some of the songs on the new “Smooth Jazz II” disc reference weather in the titles such as “Rainbow Seeker” by Joe Sample and “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” by David Benoit.
Benoit has commented, “I am honored to be part of The Weather Channel’s music CD. I have always enjoyed listening to the terrific music presented on the network and it is a thrill for me to be part of it.”
Another selection on the CD is “Pacific Coast Highway” by Jeff Lorber. In response to the inclusion of his song, Lorber says, “The Weather Channel is one of the favorite things we watch in our house. It’s always great to know what’s going on with the weather. I love the music that’s played on The Weather Channel and I’m honored to be part of their compilation.”

On June 6, 2008 the Concord Music Group released part fve of its historic reissues series, Keepnews Collection, which spotlights classic albums by jazz titans put on the map by the legendary producer Orrin Keepnews. An icon of the jazz world who continues to be actively involved, Keepnews provides insider insight into the music's history through this reissue series.
The Keepnews Collection serves jazz aficionados who are looking to add to their collections as well as jazz neophytes who have caught the jazz bug and long to delve deeper into the music that truly captures the American spirit of freedom.
Four titles of this edition were originally released on the Keepnews-helmed label, Riverside Records, which recorded seminal jazz albums in the '50s and early '60s, and one recording was released on his important '70s label, Milestone Records. The collection, remastered in 24-bit from the original master tapes, allows Keepnews to revisit some of his significant accomplishments as a producer.
In his written introduction to the series, Keepnews notes, “For more than a half-century. I have frequently succeeded in finding, recognizing, coddling, arguing and collaborating with a great variety of talented and occasionally difficult people. On the whole, I am unreasonably and unshakably proud of the results." He adds that the Keepnews Collection spotlights albums of special importance-"some because of the initial impact they made, others because they have particular personal meaning or may present a performer whose value has not been fully appreciated."

The soul legend’s new album entered billboard charts at #9 and continues to earn wide-spread critical acclaim.
The year is only half over, but it has been a whirlwind thus far for legendary soul and R&B icon, Al Green. His new album, Lay It Down, just delivered him the highest debuting record of his career, charting at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and at #4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart this week.
This marks Green’s highest chart position since his classic I’m Still In Love With You peaked at #4 in 1972. Lay It Down has also galvanized the critics, who’ve unanimously agreed its Green’s best effort since the 70’s.
The New York Times declared, “Of course it’s Al Green, seemingly unchanged by any trend, who owns this moment; he remains the beacon to which everyone else on ‘Lay It Down’ genuflects,” while Entertainment Weekly said, “Al Green’s just-released Lay It Down is a startling return to form for the soul great.”
The Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, Parade, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, NPR and a slew of others have given Lay It Down glowing reviews.
Green will perform on the “Late Show with David Letterman” today; Thursday, June 5th.
