Smooth jazz fans should be on the lookout for renowned musicians Gerald Albright and Paul Jackson Jr. on American Idol as the two will be performing with Rickey Minor and the band.
Jackson, who recently had three of his guitars stolen, has been playing on the show all season, while Albright will join the band as the show’s top thirteen contestants battle for this year’s title.
Whether he is playing contemporary or straight-ahead jazz, Albright stands in a class all by himself. He is known for his swiftness on stage, his unique round sound which is percussive yet soulful. He has the ability to surprise the audience with something out of the ordinary.
Jackson’s musical interests began during his childhood, when he performed with a family band which included his siblings, his mother, and good friend Cornelius Mims. At age 14 Paul’s musical instrument preference was the Gibson guitar, given to him by his parents.
Both musicians are well known to the smooth jazz community and bring a lot of talent and character to the American Idol band.
