Record Release at Scullers Jazz Club Boston-based pianist Tim Ray is excited to announce the release of his new trio CD Fire & Rain on Whaling City Sound, his third release for the label. The album features John Lockwood on bass and Mark Walker on drums and showcases the trio's ability to create harmonically rich and balanced ensemble music. Ray is a seasoned musician who has worked with an impressive list of pop music icons such as Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, and Bonnie Raitt, among others. He has also performed with notable jazz figures like Kurt Elling, Gary Burton, and Esperanza Spalding. Ray is a Professor at the Berklee College of Music and an NEA grant recipient.
Fire & Rain includes an eclectic mix of tracks, ranging from Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments" to James Taylor's "Fire and Rain," and features three original compositions by Ray himself. The album has received high praise from jazz journalist Bob Blumenthal, who writes in the liner notes that "the level of creativity never falters."
To celebrate the album's release, Tim Ray and his trio will perform two shows at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston on Friday, April 28th, 2023, at 7pm and 9pm.
