Vivendi SA will pay $2.1 billion for BMG Music Publishing, owned by Germany's Bertelsmann AG, to become the world's biggest music publisher.
Vivendi's Universal Music Group was expected to sign a definitive agreement Wednesday to acquire the world's third-largest music publishing concern, the Financial Times reported.
The deal, which must clear EU and U.S. anti-trust regulators, gets Universal such artists as Christina Aguilera, Barry Manilow and Justin Timberlake.
The combination will not affect Bertelsmann's jointly held Sony BMG Music Entertainment recorded music business.
