The new radio station features personalities familiar to Chicagoans, like Chicago native and Smooth Jazz keyboardist Brian Culbertson in AM Drive. Saxophonist and former WNUA afternoon personality Dave Koz can be heard from 2 to 7 each afternoon. World famous Smooth Jazz musicians will be heard extensively as hosts on The L, including Kenny G, Norman Brown, and Paul Hardcastle.
The music mix will represent what Chicagoan’s are asking for based on feedback over the past 22 years. Over the next few months, based on extensive market research, “The L” will base an increasing portion of locally based programming on feedback it receives from Chicago-area listeners. I wasn't sure what was going on with 87.7, because they never said any call letters. I waited all day just to see if they would identify themselves and I never heard it. At any rate, I'm glad that there's a definite format and intent to keep smooth jazz on the air.
Thanks for your comments. It's unfortunate how the FM smooth jazz market has evaporated over the last six months. We too lost a very popular station in south Florida. While there are great deal of very good internet options, it's a shame to lose FM stations at this rate.
I was devistated when WNUA went off the air. I was equally if not more happy to find the new Jazz station. It is a great tribute to the jazz lovers in this city that represent it's heart and soul. Best of luck to the new station and may you last at least another 22 years.
