Lee Ritenour And Dave Grusin Return With 'Amparo'
Guitarist Lee Ritenour and pianist Dave Grusin have teamed up again, for a new classical crossover release called Amparo, which will be released in September by the Decca label Group.
Amparo features Ritenour and Grusin's interpretations of works by classic composers including Maurice Ravel, George Frederic Handel, Tomas Albinoni and Gabriel Faure. It also includes appearances from singer-songwriter James Taylor, soprano Renee Fleming, violinist Joshua Bell, and trumpeter Chris Botti.
Grusin said, "We grew up with the classical music repertoire, and Amparo gives us another chance to delve back into that world together."
Ritenour and Grusin's most recent album together was the classical crossover hit album Two Worlds, in 2000.
The two have a long relationship, as Ritenour explained: "Dave is just such a legendary piano player, you know, he's an Oscar winner, I think he's got about 12 Grammys and he's just made so many of his own great albums. We've done so many collaborations together. He's really my best friend and we've collaborated since I was 18."
Ritenour will be in Switzerland in July 12th through 14th, performing as part of the Quincy Jones Birthday Celebration at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He will also be president of Montreux's International Guitar Competition. Following a short European tour, he returns to the U.S. for August and September dates in San Diego; Idyllwild, California; Seattle; and Fort Worth, Texas.

Chris Standring Takes To The Road With Third Soul Express Tour
Everette Harp and Phil Perry Are On Triple Bill For 2008 Summer Shows
Coinciding with the success of his newest release, Love and Paragraphs (Ultimate Vibe,) which is currently holding tight to the number two position on the Smooth Jazz Charts, guitarist Chris Standring has once again assembled a triad of top talent for the third annual Soul Express tour. Joining Standring for these evenings of funk, soul and R&B will be saxophonist Everette Harp and vocalist Phil Perry, for a series of dates that will begin with a July 11 show at the Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival in Omaha , and which will conclude on September 27 at Santa Fe Station in Las Vegas .
Standring, who the London Times has cited as “one of the most talented jazz guitarists,” introduced the Soul Express bill in 2006, when he took the tour out with Jody Whatley and Jeff Lorber. The 2007 Soul Express line up featured Whatley and Everette Harp.
Love and Paragraphs, which was released in April of 2008, features guest performances from both Lorber and Harp, and maintains the seductive vibe that is the trademark of every Soul Express live performance throughout its ten tracks. Smooth Jazz Therapy called the CD “one of the sensations of the year,” and Smooth Jazz News praised it for its “catchy hooks and sublime electric guitar…”
In addition to his upcoming shows with Soul Express, Standring will tour in the US and UK throughout the year in support of the CD’s release.
Saxophonist Everette Harp’s most recent CD, My Inspiration, was released on Shanachie Records in 2007, and reached the #2 spot on the Contemporary Jazz charts. Powerhouse R&B vocalist Phil Perry, who has enjoyed dual success as a sideman for such artists as Anita Baker and Dave Koz and as a solo artist, is set to release a new CD in July of 2008.
For information on Chris Standring, visit his website, chrisstandring.com The Soul Express website, with links to Harp’s and Perry’s personal sites, is soulexpress.us A full itinerary follows.

Gerald Albright - "Sax For Stax"
Gerald Albright: among the most respected, multi-dimensional and sought after saxophonists to straddle the fence of jazz and R&B. Stax Records: the legendary Memphis-based recording company that defined southern soul from the late `50s to the mid `70s. Turn the former loose on the latter and what do you get: Sax for Stax, a soul stirring stew of down home rhythm and blues chased with a mason jar of jazz. Consisting of eight passionately rendered covers of Stax classics (three with vocal guests Will Downing, Ledisi and Philip Bailey), plus three originals written with Memphis in mind, Sax for Stax (in stores June 24) marks the sax master's eleventh solo project and second for Peak Records, which along with Stax, is a division of the Concord Music Group.

Natalie Cole Is 'still Unforgettable'
Grammy winner Natalie Cole is returning to the kind of musical setting that brought her renewed fame in the '90s. The singer will release Still Unforgettable on September 9th, 17 years after releasing Unforgettable...With Love, the album of American Songbook standards that included a duet with her late father, Nat "King" Cole. That album sold more than 14 million copies worldwide and earned Natalie five Grammy Awards.
Still Unforgettable will feature 14 new tunes, including "The Best Is Yet To Come," "Nice 'N'Easy," and "Something's Gotta Give." The set includes another duet between Cole and her father on his hit "Walking My Baby Back Home" thanks to audio technology.
It took many years for Cole to cover her father's music after forging her own solo identity. She says the fact that her father was an elegant and classy entertainer who sang about universal themes made him unforgettable to his family and his fans: "The way he dressed, the way he carried himself. And then you add that to this great, silky voice. And the things that he chose to sing about were very lofty things, it was beautiful romance. He painted a picture, he was like a visionary."
The new CD will be released and marketed through a co-venture between Cole, DMI Music, and Rhino/WEA.
The singer's most recent album was Leavin', released in 2006 on Verve. That project found Cole singing a range of '60 and '70s pop and R&B hits.
