David Benoit Offers Up 'Never Can Say Goodbye'

Keyboardist David Benoit is offering another single from his fine covers album Heroes. This time, he's chosen "Never Can Say Goodbye," a tune originally recorded by the Jackson 5 in 1971. The single is the follow-up to Benoit's first single from the set, "Human Nature," a version of the Michael Jackson solo hit from his record-breaking Off The Wall album.

Benoit explains that when he first chose tunes for Heroes, he didn't realize that he had two Michael Jackson-associated tunes on the album. He first became familiar with "Never Can Say Goodbye" early in his performing career.

Benoit explained: "I heard it when I was playing in a top 40 band in Redondo Beach, California. And the singer, an R&B singer, was singing it and so I learned it. And it became kind of part of my repretoire of popular songs growing up, when I was still actually in high school, I think it was '71. And it just was one of those songs that stuck with me for a long time. "

Benoit will also be sharing some Christmas cheer this holiday season. He released the CD Jazz For Peanuts: A Retrospective of the Charlie Brown Television Themes last week and will kick off his annual A Charlie Brown Christmas tour with the David Benoit Quartet on November 21st.
