Veteran group Spyro Gyra is back on the contemporary jazz charts these days with their latest effort Good To Go-Go. The CD is a tribute to the music of the Caribbean and features the musical and compositional skills of all the members of the group. The CD also comes just a year and a half after the release of their 2006 set Wrapped In A Dream.
The group's release schedule is brisk considering that other instrumental acts take as long as three years between CD releases. Saxophonist and co-founder Jay Beckenstein says that with such talented and prolific members, it's easy for Spyro Gyra to keep turning out strong albums: "You know the records are a product of all five band members. If you look at Good To Go-Go, everybody in the band wrote songs on it. And because there's really five very creative people involved in it, it's not so hard to turn out a record every year and a half."
