To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, the Grammy Awards broadcast this Sunday (February 10th) will feature a number of unusual duet performances to demonstrate the breadth and depth of recorded music. Current nominee and multiple Grammy holder Herbie Hancock is set to perform a piano duet with Chinese classical piano star Lang Lang on the telecast, and Grammy Awards show producer Ken Ehrlich says he's really looking forward to it.
Ehrlich revealed that the jazz veteran and the classical pianist will perform George Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" with a full orchestra. He said: "We've invited Lang Lang, this incredible Chinese pianist, to join with Herbie Hancock and they're gonna do a pretty good chunk of 'Rhapsody In Blue.'And the idea of this being, it may be our fiftieth, but music didn't start with the Grammys and it's not gonna end when we go off the air." Hancock's River: The Joni Letters is nominated for album of the year and best contemporary jazz album at this year's Grammy Awards ceremony, airing Sunday from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
