British soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae has made her first public appearance since the recent death of her husband, saxophonist Jason Rae. According to E! Online, the 29-year-old Grammy-winning singer visited a towering Easter cross in the Yorkshire, England countryside Thursday (March 27th) and laid a spray of heather at its base in remembrance of her 31-year-old husband, who died of a suspected overdose. A statement issued on Bailey Rae's behalf said, "Corinne Bailey Rae and her family have been touched by the huge amount of love and support that's flooded in from all over the world, and that is really helping all of us cope at this terrible time. Corinne is also very grateful for the privacy she is being given and the respect that has been paid to herself and Jason."
Jason Rae, who wed Corinne in 2001 after they met in a jazz club, was found dead in a Leeds, England apartment on March 22nd. At a recent inquest, officials testified that a pathologist's report pointed to a "suspected drugs overdose" and there was "no evidence of any injuries or disease." Additional tests are still being completed. An unidentified 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs to Rae. He is currently free on bail pending further questioning.
