Baseball star-turned-guitarist Bernie Williams is preparing for the April 14th release of his second CD, titled Moving Forward. The new set includes two versions of the 1991 Jon Secada hit "Just Another Day Without You."
Williams drafted Secada himself --as well as the Harlem Boys & Girls Alumni Choir -- to recreate the tune for the album. In addition, as a nod to both artists'Latin heritage, Williams and Secada also recorded a Spanish version of the song dubbed "Otra Dia Mas Sin Verte."
The upcoming CD also includes versions of the classic "Que Rico El Mambo" and a lyrical version of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame," a nod to his stellar career as a New York Yankee. In a live track, he also joins Bruce Springsteen for a rousing version of "Glory Days."
The rest of the album's 14 tracks are all penned and produced by Williams.
The guitarist says he had more time and more control when making Moving Forward than he did on his debut set, The Journey Within, which he recorded in a month while on hiatus from major league baseball: "When I recorded this album, because I really had all the time in the world to think things through, and I was more hands on in the project. From hiring the musicians and making the arrangements, and my playing, you know, I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to play and the kind of voice I wanted to put through. It was a lot better experience this time around."
Williams, who left the Yankees in 2006 after an eleven-year career, will play once more for team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, which kicks off March 7th.
