Quincy Jones To Present Ella Award To Herb Alpert & Lani Hall

The lineup of performers for the Society of Singers'May 18th Ella Awards presentation to Herb Alpert and Lani Hall has been announced. Alan Bergman, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr., Renee Olstead, Steve Tyrell, Tata Vega, and Paul Williams will all perform at the event, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

In addition, Quincy Jones will present the Ella Award to Alpert and Hall.

The Society of Singers is a nonprofit organization that offers comprehensive services to meet the emergency financial needs of professional singers worldwide. The Ella Award is named after its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald, and recognizes individuals whose humanitarian and charitable contributions match their musical achievements.

Alpert and Hall recently announced that they have signed to Concord Records and will deliver a new CD this year.

Even at 74, with a wealth of other business and musical projects on his plate, Alpert says he picks up the trumpet daily: "I practice every day. I mean, I'm kind of conditioned to do it, I miss it if I don't. It's become a good friend of mine. And also it's been a bad friend at times (laughs) as well. But there are times when you pick it up, and because I'm not feeling so in touch with myself on a particular day, you can just hear it through the horn."
